Villefranche is held within its harbour, one of the deepest in the Mediterranean. The old town falls to the water through vaulted lanes, the Rue Obscure has run beneath the houses since the 13th century, and the dock still keeps its fishing boats.
Ten minutes from Nice, the town lives at another pace. Here one buys a view over the bay and a way of life that has stayed a harbour’s, more than a mere address.
